THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police on Friday registered a case against a CITU leader after it was found that he acted as an intermediary in the Titanium job fraud. The Cantonment Police registered a case against Anil Kumar (Manakkad Anil), District Secretary of the CITU organization of coffee house employees.
Anil Kumar works in the coffee house of the MLA hostel. It is reported that he absconded soon after the police registered the case. The police registered the case against Anil based on a complaint lodged by a Chenkal native youth. In his complaint, the youth stated that he had handed over Rs 10 lakhs to the main accused Divya Jyothi through Anil Kumar. The police also registered another case against Anil Kumar and other accused on the complaint lodged by a Kazhakootam native who alleged that the accused embezzled Rs 9 lakhs from him in 2018 by offering a job. The Kazhakoottam native also stated that he had handed over the money to Anil Kumar.
Meanwhile, the probe team suspects that the fraudsters may have received the help of the IT and HR department of the organization. In his complaint, the Chenkal native said that he had applied for the Work Assistant post in Titanium after the company invited the applications. However, he received the hall ticket only after paying the money through Anil Kumar. Hall tickets are issued by the IT and HR departments. This is the reason behind the probe team's suspicion. The probe team may question the staff here in the next few days.
The Chenkal native approached Anil Kumar through his relative. He contacted Anil Kumar after receiving information that the latter was arranging jobs for many people in Titanium. The accused demanded ten lakh rupees from the youth and asked him to apply for the job through the website. Following this, the complainant gave the money to Divya Jyothi through Anil Kumar. He received the hall ticket after handing over the entire amount to the accused. Divya then told the youth that he need not write the exam and can attend the interview directly as money had been delivered to concerned officials.
As it was the Covid period, Legal Deputy General Manager Sasikumaran Thampi interviewed the youth via video call. The young man contacted Divya after several months of waiting for the job but to no avail. Following this, he lodged a complaint with the police. At the same time, it is reported that many people have been scammed through Anil.
