THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A KSRTC controlling inspector was suspended for allegedly beating a student at Poovar bus stand. M Sunil Kumar (46) of KSRTC Poovar Depot, hailing from Nedumangad, was suspended under investigation. The complaint against him is that he beat up the student and locked him in the station master's room. MD Biju Prabhakar ordered the suspension of Sunil Kumar after the complaint was found to have merit and the incident had caused embarrassment to the corporation.
Shanu, a native of Pozhiyoor, a first year student of Tirupuram Government Higher Secondary School was beaten up by the controlling inspector at Poovar bus stand last Wednesday. Shanu's complaint is that Sunil Kumar beat him for talking to girl classmates. A video of Shanu with his shirt torn was released.
The girls who were with her and the locals in the stand confirmed Shanu's complaint. The vigilance team of KSRTC reached Poovar bus stand for investigation and submitted the report to the MD. Following the student's complaint, Sunil Kumar was arrested by the Poovar police yesterday and released on station bail.
The vigilance investigation revealed that the controlling inspector Sunil Kumar dragged the student who was about to board the bus and took him to the station master's room and tried to hold him hostage. A case has been registered under sections 341, 342 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code.
