KOCHI: The body of 10-year-old Malayali cycle polo player Nida Fathima, who died in Nagpur, was brought to Kochi. Sports Council President Mercy Kuttan, Ambalapuzha MLA H Salam and other relatives received the body at Nedumbassery airport. Nida's father Shihabuddin was also on the flight. The body was taken to Alappuzha.

After conducting religious ceremonies led by voluntary organisation, Nida’s body will be kept for public homage at the Government school in Neerkunnam, where she studied at 11 am. The body will be taken to her home at Ambalapuzha home 12 pm. The funeral is at Kakkazham Juma Masjid graveyard at 12:30 pm.

The team including Nida reached Nagpur on December 20 to participate in the National Sub-Junior Cycle Polo competition. On Wednesday night, the girl was rushed to the hospital due to nausea but she succumbed to death. She died on Thursday morning. Teams of two associations went from Kerala to participate in the championship. Nida was a team member of the Kerala Cycle Polo Association.

The Kerala Cycle Polo Association alleged that accommodation and food were not provided for the players who reached Nagpur. But the explanation of the National Polo Association is that the players have been provided facilities and an allowance of Rs 600.
