THRISSUR: After getting a government grant of Rs 1.9 crore, Kerala Kalamandalam was able to pay its employees' salaries on Christmas Eve. Kerala Kaumudi had reported about the crisis in Kalamandalam due to the delayed grant. Following this, minister K Radhakrishnan had assured that he would put pressure on the finance department to give the grant immediately.

Kalamandalam will be able to pay the employees' salaries for the month of December with the present grant. However, it will be able to provide salaries from January only after receiving the next instalment. The Kalamandalam University Employees Union had observed the rights day and warned of a strike following the delayed salary.

When Kalamandalam was made a deemed-to-be-university in 2007, the number of workers increased. However, the grant was not increased. The grant of Rs 7.6 crores that Kalamandalam receives in a year is inadequate.
