KOYILANDY: Police have arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with the suicide of his 19-year-old granddaughter. The arrested person is Kappad native Abubacker. Rifa, a second-year BCom student of Malabar College, was found hanging in her house on last Saturday. The accused is the father of Rifa's mother.

The police arrested Abubacker under POCSO Act after finding Rifa's suicide note in which she claimed that Abubacker had sexually abused her. It is learned that the accused had been sexually abusing her since she was 14 years old.

At the beginning of the investigation, the relatives had not revealed about Rifa's suicide note. Later, the police team led by Koyilandy CI N Sunilumar found the suicide note after a detailed investigation.
