KOZHIKODE: The woman who smuggled gold and the gang that tried to grab it have been arrested. Deena (30), a native of Sultan Bathery, Mohammad Sahad (24) and Mohammad Jamnas (36), natives of Kozhikode, have been arrested. The police have taken into custody the vehicle of the accused.

The woman came from Dubai with 146 grams of gold. The accused were arrested while they were getting into the vehicle after coming out after customs check at the Karipur airport. The woman told police that she brought the gold for Zubair, a native of Wayanad.

Before bringing the gold, Deena came to an understanding with the gang who came to snatch the gold. Their plan was to steal the gold worth Rs 8 lakh in the market and share the money after selling it. Deena had smuggled the gold earlier also.

The police checking was based on a secret information received by the Malappuram district police chief. When the accused were chased and interrogated, they refused to admit the crime. The gold was found after checking the luggage.

After recording the arrest, the accused were produced before the Manjeri Court and remanded. The police had yesterday arrested a 19-year-old girl who smuggled gold worth around Rs one crore.
