THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The malfunctioning of the E-PoS system disrupted the ration distribution across the state despite the distribution of rations in many places in the state on Tuesday. As it was the last week of the month, the shops were busy. The major problem was the error with the biometric data collection while placing finger on the E-PoS machine. The alternative system of sending OTP on cardholder's registered mobile phone resulted in a delay in the disbursement process. In some places the OTP system also faced issues.
As the E-PoS failure continued, the operation of ration shops was arranged in the morning and evening alternatively in all districts. The arrangement was to not affect server capacity. However, the Food and Public Distribution Department explains that the failure continues due to problems related to BSNL's server. Out of 93 lakh card holders, 56 percent have bought ration in December so far.
