THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A confusion prevails in Congress and UDF in using financial allegations against LDF Convener EP Jayarajan as a political weapon. While KPCC President K Sudhakaran demanded an investigation by national agencies, Opposition leader VD Satheeshan said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) should not investigate this. Satheeshan alleges that Union minister of state V Muraleedharan has demanded a probe by ED to reconcile with CPM. While Kunhalikutty had a soft stance on the issue, KPA Majeed and KM Shaji has toughened their stance. With this, Kunhalikutty changed his stance yesterday.
The Opposition leader told the media that the UDF will decide on the kind of investigation they should demand on the 30th of this month. While the Congress stands against political misuse of central agencies in the national level, the Opposition leader shares the concern that welcoming central agencies in Kerala may backfire.
There is a strong feeling among the lower ranks of the Congress that they have failed to exploit the issue politically. They believe that this is happening because of confusion among the leaders.
The leaders responded a day after the allegations were raised. On the day of the controversy, only Youth Congress president Shafi Parambil came forward against the CPM. Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, on the other hand, dismissed it as an internal issue in the CPM. The UDF leadership meeting on the 30th may decide to hold an agitation demanding an impartial investigation.
