DEHRADUN: The police said that Rishabh Pant was not drunk and that he was not over speeding at the time of the accident. In the CCTV footage of the accident, it is seen that the car dashing into the divider.
The police made it clear that Rishabh Pant’s car did not exceed 80 km per hour speed while driving on the national highway. In the footage the car hits the divider and gets hurled up and falls down. This led to the belief that the car was over speeding. Haridwar senior police Superintend Ajay Singh said that the technical team of the police found no evidence of over speeding in its investigation.
If Pant was drunk it would be impossible for him to drive 200 km without being in an accident. The police official said that the doctor who gave him primary treatment at Rourke hospital said that Pant was normal.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand police Director General Ashok Kumar said that the accident was caused because Rishabh Pant had dosed off while driving. The cricketer had also said this.
The accident occurred Friday morning at 5.30 am on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in Haridwar district. The car dashed into the divider at high speed and fell onto the other part of the road.
The imported luxury car got on fire within moments. He was driving to his native place at Rourke in Uttarakhand after returning from a cricket series with Bangladesh.
It was a bus driver, Susheel, who moved Rishabh Pant to the divider before his car was engulfed in flames. Pant had gotten out of the car by smashing the windshield.
Hearing the sound the blast the people living nearby and passers by rushed to the spot. After he revealed that he was Rishabh Pant, he was immediately taken to the nearby hospital. He was then taken to Max Hospital at Dehradun 90 kms away.
