NEW DELHI: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the Supreme court has not declared the demonetisation decision as right. He stated that what the central government saying on this issue is wrong. “The Supreme Court only justified that Central government has the right to take the decision of demonetisation but have not said that demonetisation was right,” Yechury said. He also pointed the opinion of Justice Nagaratna that if the government had to take a decision on demonetisation, then it is wrong to bypass the parliament.

“The impact of demonetisation was not mentioned in the court order. Demonetisation had ruined India’s economy. The lives of crores of people were affected and small-scale industries are closed even today.”, he added.

The five-member Supreme court bench had upheld the central government’s decision of banning notes. Following this, the CPM leader has responded in the incident. The BJP government banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in November, 2016 and was widely criticised for the decision. But despite this, the BJP came to power the second time also.
