THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that he has accepted chief minister's decision on the swearing in of Saji Cherian. There were many discussions in the media regarding the return of Saji Cherian as a minister. The Governor told the media that he sought legal advice based on this.
The swearing-in function will be held on Wednesday. The governor said that he has informed the chief minister what he has to say. He said that he doesn’t want to discuss it in public. He added that the usual practice is to accept the chief minister's recommendation in such matters. Reports had surfaced that the Governor had received legal advice that Saji Cherian's swearing in should be allowed only if he is convinced that the court has fully acquitted him in the case of insulting the constitution.
The reports that came in said the advice given by S Gopakumaran Nair, the legal advisor to the Governor, is that there is no immediate need to include Saji Cherian in the cabinet. The legal advice also said the details of the notice given by the chief minister in haste should be examined. With this, there were speculations that there is uncertainty in the swearing-in. In the midst of this, the governor gave permission for the swearing in on Wednesday.
