KOTTAYAM: The Kottayam Municipality suspended the health supervisor in connection with the death of Reshmi Raj (33), a nurse of Kottayam Medical College, of food poisoning. The municipality suspended him for giving permission to open the hotel again where the incident happened. The license of the hotel was suspended by the food safety department.

The woman died on January 2 due to food poisoning after eating from the hotel. Reshmi fell ill after having alfam and kuzhimanthi from the hotel on December 29. After an hour, she started vomiting and had diarrhea. Reshmi was first admitted to a private hospital and when her condition worsened, she was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. She was later put on ventilator and soon she died.

The authorities of Kottayam Medical College Hospital informed that her health condition was very serious for three days and the death was due to an infection in the internal organs. 20 other people who ate from the same hotel also had food poisoning. They sought treatment at ICH and a private hospital in Kudamalur.
