KANNUR: A state-wide inspection is continuing after the death of the nurse in Kottayam due to food poisoning. The corporation conducted extensive inspections in hotels in Kannur under the leadership of the food safety department.

Stale food was seized from 58 hotels in an inspection conducted. Chicken dishes like Alfaham and Tandoori were mostly seized. Stale food items were seized from hotels like M R A Bakery, M V K Restaurant, Seventh Lounge, Prema Cafe, Seetapani Hotel, Barkka Hotel, D Finland Hotel, Hamsa Tea Shop, Greeshma Hotel, Marabi Restaurant and Kalpaka Hotel. The inspection was divided into seven squads. All seized were rotten food items.

Meantime, 11 hotels including Buhari in Attakulangara, were closed during an inspection conducted by the food safety department in the capital city. Inspections were conducted in 46 hotels. The greatest number of hotels checked were in the capital city. The officials said Buhari was shut down after finding cockroaches in the food items.

When the officials went for an inspection at Buhari following complaints received, found cockroaches en masse in the old fridge kept in the kitchen. An unusable fridge was used as a cupboard. The officials directed to remove the wet sacks from the kitchen. The officials directed Buhari's owners to open the hotel with the corporation's approval after getting a certificate from the pesticide control certificate.
