TRIVANDRUM: A statement from the district Suchitwa mission cleared the air about allotting user fees to Harita karma Sena workers. The district Suchitwa mission said a user fee of 50 Rs should be paid by homes to avail the service of HKS volunteers for their work of plastic waste collection and disposal. Lately, the HKS workers were begrudged and puzzled after talks went around saying the user fee system got stopped. The response from Suchitwa mission is intended to clear every doubt.

According to the 2016-issued plastic waste management guideline, every home must pay a basic user fee to HKS volunteers. In 2020, the government fixated on this issue further saying the user fee system for HKS workers remains valid. Authorities fear that some homes may stop donating plastic waste to HKS to evade user fees. If found by the officials, the fine for such crimes could rise high to 50,000 Rs.
