BATHERY: A wild tusker entered Bathery in Wayanad early Friday morning at 2 am. The tusker lifted a man with its trunk and banged him down. Though the tusker tried to kick Thampy, the handrail on the footpath prevented it from attacking further. Thampy, who sustained minor injuries has been admitted at the Bathery Taluk Hospital.
The tusker was seen running behind a KSRTC bus. It created a tense situation in the city for an hour. The locals and the forest guards later chased the elephant to the forest. The forest department has informed that the elephant is presently in Mullankunnu adjacent to the forest and asked people to be vigilant. The locals said that this is the killer elephant caught by the forest department from Tamil Nadu and released in the forest. Bathery Town is next to Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Another tusker that entered Kalloor Town last night destroyed 400 plantains of director Sharath Chandran.
