NEW DELHI: The central government has approved elite universities including Yale and Stanford to open up campuses in India to give a needed facelift to the country’s educational system. The move falls under the much-discussed NEP policy that looks for transition in the academic domain that has hitherto lagged in global rankings.
The regulator of the University grant commission has already unveiled a draft that seeks public opinion about welcoming foreign institutions to India. The government under Modi is relentlessly pushing for a transition in the educational policy and this move according to the government will ensure affordable fees for students and in the process will turn India into a global educational hub. According to the latest global ranking competitiveness index that gauges a nation's ability to grow, India ranks 101 among the entire 133 countries.
