NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airline companies to take strict action against unruly passengers on board. The DGCA's action comes in the wake of increasing incidents of violence inside flights.

DGCA stated that airline companies should take steps to file a case as soon as the flight makes the landing. The aviation regulatory body further said that non-action or inappropriate action or omission by the airlines towards such untoward incidents had tarnished the image of air travel in different segments of society. It also directed that strict action should be taken against those, including the pilot-in-command, if the incidents are not reported properly and no action is taken.

The aviation regulatory body's action follows the incident of a passenger urinating on a fellow passenger on a New York-Delhi Air India flight last day. Shankar Mishra, the accused in the case, has been fired by Wells Fargo. Shankar Mishra was the vice president of the company in India. The company also said that it will cooperate with the investigation against him.
