KOCHI: It was a busy day in the office for the food safety unit as they put shutters to 50 hotels that worked under unhygienic conditions. Among this, a slew of hotels didn’t have a license to start with. Irumbanam Gulan thatukada and north Paravur majlis are two hotels found to have worked under squalid conditions. Almost 19 eateries should pay fines to continue functioning while 11 others were served a final warning.
In an appalling case, a centipede was found inside a biriyani in Kayayis hotel that has been functioning for a long in Mattancherry premises. The inspection will be carried out in the coming days informed assistant commissioner for food safety, John Vijaykumar.
