THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The deadline for submitting complaints related to the buffer zone issue will end today. The field inspection will be expedited after sending the complaints received till this evening to the respective panchayats. More than half a lakh complaints have already been received through the help desks. Although the field survey is in progress, the complete information of newly discovered structures has not been uploaded.

As many as 18,496 complaints received till yesterday have been verified and the information has been geo-tagged on the map through Asset Mapper App of Kerala State Remote Sensing and Environment Center (KSREC). As per directions, the complaints received within a week should be fully investigated and settled. A new hard disk was also installed yesterday as KSREC's server was down the other day.

As many as 54,607 complaints have been received in the forest department till yesterday. 17,054 complaints were redressed by joint inspection of forest-local-revenue teams. More than 75,500 structures were newly discovered. This is in addition to the 49,330 structures previously identified in the satellite survey. The forest department officials say that the number of these will increase during the inspection in the coming days.
