TRIVANDRUM: After Governor Arif Khan curtailed every move for back-door appointments, the vice chancellor of Tech varsity has now approached the government to create positions for 55 permanent employees to work as assistants. It is Keralakaumudy that carried a series of reports on the issue which turned out to be the basic ground for the governor stepping into stop back-door appointments. With a total of 44 affiliated colleges and students crossing 150000 in numbers, the tech university is scant in employees with a meager 57 permanent staff. For examination and certificate-issuing duties, another 54 are employed. Some of them continue in work even after 7 years while the vice-chancellor Ciza Thomas stays indifferent to temporary staff handling results publication and other core duties.
In the past, the university requested 100 assistant seats from the government of which 25 were given. The PSC rank list for selecting assistants is still in effect. If the list gets done, then the appointment grabs pace without any hindrance. The Tech varsity VC has assured no additional financial burden for the government as the salary for all those requested staffs will be taken care of by the varsity.
As the appointment falls under the ambit of the PSC, many syndicate members have started moves to beseech the government to delay the appointments. At present, the temporary staff in tech varsity is provided a salary of Rs 32500.
