THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A team headed by Crime Branch SP S Madhu will investigate the case in which director Nayana Surya was found dead with fatal injuries in a rented house in Thiruvananthapuram. After registering the case as a new crime number at the crime branch headquarters, it will be handed over to Madhu today or tomorrow.

A departmental inquiry may also be announced in the coming days against the officials of the Museum Police Station, who made lapses in the first investigation, and the former Cantonment assistant commissioner who was in charge. Meanwhile, DCRB Assistant Commissioner's report says that two of the eight injuries found on Nayana's body indicate that she was murdered. The bruise on her abdomen, which resulted in internal bleeding, is a sign that she was kicked by someone. Another injury wound seen between the neck and jaw indicates strangulation. The Museum police did not collect fingerprints from the body and the room. They did not investigate about those who met Nayana was no inquiry into Nayana's days before her death sightings, her phone calls and financial transactions.

The police had claimed that Nayana committed suicide as her room was locked from the inside. However, it was proved wrong by the testimonies of witnesses. There is no doctor's certification for a conclusion that Nayana suffered from mental illness. The report also said that although the front door was closed, there was a possibility of a person escaping through the balcony door.
