KOLLAM: Five CITU workers were arrested for assaulting the owner of a supermarket in Nilamel. Shan, the owner of Union Corp Super Mart, was attacked for questioning consumption of liquor near the supermarket. The incident happened last evening at 3 pm. The arrested are Premdas, Reghu, Jayesh, Sinu and Mohanan Pillai. He was arrested on charges for assault, trespassing and unlawful gathering.
Shan had warned a CITU worker from sitting behind the shop and drinking. The complaint of Shan said the activists soon barged into his shop and assaulted him. The CCTV footages of the incident had gone viral. It had visuals of CITU workers assaulting Shan and kicking him in the presence of customers and other staffs of the supermarket. He was brutally attacked by around 13 people.
Meantime, the explanation of CITU district leadership is that it was Shan who attacked a CITU worker. CITU Kollam district secretary S Jayamohan said the incident will be investigated. He said strong steps will be taken if there are any lapses from the side of the workers.
