NEW DELHI: The Inclement weather in the northern states shows no signs of calming down. The temperature in Delhi depleted to a new low with Safdarjung recording 1.9 degrees Celcius and Lodhi road experiencing 2.8 degrees Celcius, as per the IMD readings. Adding up the worries, the fog in Delhi restricted the visibility to just 25 meters while the air quality index dipped further.

In a tough bid to escape the dense fogs, 34 flights got delayed while 42 trains ran late, informed northern railway. While the temperature kept on plummeting, a red alert has been issued by the authorities. States including UP, Punjab, and Haryana extended the winter break allotted to students.

The night shelter provided by Delhi's Urban Shelter Improvement Board is crammed with inhabitants. In Kashmere gate alone, 10 shelters are functioning. 264 total shelters are working in the capital with a capability of providing shelter to almost 20000. Daily wagers are the beneficiaries of these shelter homes, where meals are provided three times a day. While the arrangements are intact by some measure, the insufficient number of sanitation facilities proves to be a headache for the authorities.

A total of 480 trains got delayed following the harsh weather, and IMD has warned that the conditions may go worse in the coming three to four days in the capital.
