THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bystander who tried to assault a nurse on duty at the Medical College Hospital has been taken into police custody.
The person taken into custody by the medical college police is a native of Poovar who came to visit a patient undergoing treatment in the 28th ward. The attack was on Praseetha, a nursing officer in the 28th ward. The incident happened at 4.30 pm yesterday. The bystander of a patient in this ward hurled abuses and tried to assault a nurse named Praseetha. Based on the complaint filed by the nurse, the medical college police will register a case after recording her statement on Monday.
There were three staff in the ward in the afternoon. The bystander assaulted the nurse citing the delay in putting the drip. Das, the bystander of the patient, hurled abuses at the nurse and even grabbed her hand. Bystanders of other patients turned him away. He misbehaved with Praseetha later as well. He retreated when other staff arrived. After being informed by the staff, the medical college police reached the spot and took him into custody. Kerala Govt Nurses Union will protest today at the Medical College Hospital in protest against the incident.
