IDUKKI: A court has sentenced an ex-serviceman to 66 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 80,000 in a rape case. Judge TG Varghese of Idukki Painavu fast track court issued the verdict after the man was found guilty of sexually abusing a girl, his relative. It was found that the 38-year-old accused, a native of Kothamangalam, had committed the crime after giving alcohol to the girl.

The court sentenced the accused to 66 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine under various sections. The court also said that the accused would have to serve extra jail time if he failed to pay the fine.
