KASARGOD: "Doesn't the mother have the right to know how her daughter lost her life? It has been eight months and not even the chemical report has come out yet. I know it will take a few days. But, will it take this much time to get a report? Has that hotel owner been caught yet...?" Helplessness and pain are reflected in the words of EV Prasanna, mother of Plus One student Devananda (16), who lost her life after eating shawarma at a hotel in Cheruvathur.
"We want justice, we have filed a petition in the High Court. We have given RTI documents obtained from the panchayat and hospitals... The hotel did not even have a license. Those who took away my daughter's life and accomplices should be punished. We will go to any length for it." Prasanna said before she broke into tears.
The state government had sanctioned Rs.3 lakh to the family for the death of Devananda. It became useful for the family to pay off the debt taken from the Peralam Co-operative Bank.
Devananda's mother has been bedridden for eight months. Her elder sister Saudamini and her sister's daughter Vineetha are taking care of her.
