TRIVANDRUM: All the queries associated with the new land rules in Idukki will be quelled at a fast pace, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured. Almost 17000 and more request regarding land and title endowment is on the wait. The title endowment of 60 people near the 200-meter periphery of Erattayar dam will be done in the coming days. This region falls under the Kattappana municipality. The request for land endowment given by 150 applicants in the Ponmudi dam area will also be considered.
Through a series of amendments in the land rule in Idukki, LDF is aiming to fortify its base in the next Lok Sabha elections. The farming sections and Christian factions of Idukki have been voicing long for a change in land rules. In the decisive meeting, the Chief Minister suggested that the amendments and formulation of new rules should be to regularise small-scale constructions (up to 1,500 sq ft) made by the local people for their livelihood and diverted the usage of land allotted for agricultural purposes. The once amicable relationship between the Christian factions and CPM touched a cold note during the buffer zone fiasco. The government's current move to amend the land rules in Idukki stands pivotal as it may easily alleviate their feud with the Christian factions which also help Kerala congress M to regain their clout in the high range.
