ALAPPUZHA: CPM leader Shanawas came to the fore with an explanation in the Karunagappally drug trafficking case. He said will face action if proved guilty. He said that he did not inform the party while renting out his vehicle which is wrong. Whatever earned should be informed to the party. There was also a lapse in the caution to be shown while renting a vehicle. The vehicle was purchased on January 28 in 2022. The agreement was signed on January 6 in 2023 as the permit was obtained only on the 4th. He said that he has not committed any fraud.
Meantime, the Enforcement Directorate received a complaint against Shanawas. Three CPM workers filed the complaint. The complaint has asked to investigate the illegal acquisition of property, financial dealings etc. District Secretary R Nazar informed this at the area committee. Nazar said there have been complaints against Shanawas from many agencies.
The Karunagappally police had questioned Shanawas and his friend Anzar. The police are examining whether the document given by Shanawaz showing that the vehicle has been rented is fake. The police reached Alappuzha and interrogated the vehicle owners on the third day after the huge collection of tobacco products were seized. They were interrogated amid allegations that the police are protecting the lorry owners.
