NEW DELHI: A policeman has died while undergoing treatment after getting stabbed by a man who was caught stealing a mobile phone in the middle of the road. 57-year-old constable Shambhu Dayal was repeatedly stabbed by mobile thief Anish Raj. The incident took place in a slum in Mayapuri in West Delhi on Sunday. Shambhu Dayal had caught Anish on a complaint lodged by a woman that he had stolen her phone and threatened her.
The policeman had also recovered the phone from Anish. However, as Shambu Dayal was taking Anish to the police station, Anish took a knife from his pocket and stabbed the policeman. The CCTV footage obtained from the area showed people remaining as mute spectators even as Anish repeatedly stabbed Shambu Dayal. Shambhu Dayal was stabbed 12 times. Although Anish tried to run away from the spot after stabbing Shambhu, he was soon nabbed by another policeman. Shambhu Dayal, who was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, succumbed to his injuries four days later.
नमन pic.twitter.com/6XjXXiXm0R
