KOZHIKODE: Bird flu has also been confirmed in Kozhikode. The flu was confirmed in a local poultry farm in Chathamangalam. The highly contagious H5N1 variant was confirmed. 1800 chickens have died. Bird flu was also confirmed in a local farm in Thiruvananthapuram earlier.

Bird flu was confirmed at Azhoor grama panchayat of Thiruvananthapuram. It was confirmed in a private farm near Perunguzhi Junction in Ward 17 of the panchayat. The presence of bird flu was found in ducks and chickens here and hundreds of them had died. The disease spread to the ducklings brought from Alappuzha and the chickens brought from Hyderabad. When the ducks and chickens of the farm fell sick, antibiotics were first given but was of no use. The samples were then sent to the State Institute for Animal Diseases in Palode for further testing and to Bhopal (NIHSAD lab). Bird flu was confirmed after the result from there turned positive.
