NEW DELHI: Nupur Sharma, the former spokesperson of BJP who got suspended by the party for her alleged insult of prophet Muhammed has received an arms license for self-defense, Delhi police confirmed. She had requested for arms license following the flurry of hateful threats she received following the infamous TV debate that happened on 26th May 2022.
After the TV debate got aired, the former spokesperson's comment on prophet Muhammed was circulated across all social media portals like wildfire. Criticism and threats followed for Nupur Sharma, and adding more worries came the rare condemnation from Islamic countries like Qatar. The kingdom in Doha called the Indian envoy to convey the nation's displeasure about the purported comments from a member of India’s ruling party. Many other Islamic nations joined forces to condemn Nupur Sharma, which invariably forced the power circles in BJP to arrive at a decision. Nupur was expelled from the party, perceived more as a bid to quell the unrest and alleviate the rising displeasure among the big Islamic powers such as Qatar and Saudi.
Neighboring Pakistan on the other hand, found a perfect opportunity to further run its devious politics on the international stage. Pak prime minister Shezbaz Sharif decried the plight of Muslims in India under the watch of prime minister Narendra Modi.
While the nation got mired in the chaos following the debate, Nupur Sharma slowly faded from public light and has been elusive since. Cases got filed against her in almost every state for inciting religious sentiments. On July 2022, the supreme court held the former spokesperson saying her responsible for all the crimes happening in India following the TV debate.
Meanwhile, the moral fabric that is said to have created the nation took a backfoot, after Kanhaiyalal a tailor who supported Nupur on Facebook got murdered in daylight. Even the gruesome video of the killing was publicized. In Amaravati, Umesh Kolhe was stabbed to death following his support on social media to Nupur.
