PATHANAMTHITTA: Amidst the hair-rousing chants of ‘Sharanam Ayyappa”, the divine light 'Makarajyothi' flickered across the east horizon in Ponnambalamedu, culminating the two-month-long pilgrimage season in Sabarimala. Even hours before the Makaravilkku ritual, the sannidhanam premise turned into a sea of pilgrims clad in the traditional black. The ‘arati’ was performed and later lord Ayyappa was donned in holy jewels known as "Thiruvabharanam". More than ten centers were allotted for witnessing the divine 'makaravilakku'. People from Pulmedu and Panchalimedu in the Idukki district observed the ritual. The “Thiruvabharanam” journey to the shrine of lord Ayyappa commenced from Pandalam palace, which got a rousing reception at Sharamkuthimedu from where the Devasom officials and Ayyappa seva groups joined the walk accompanying the holy jewels to the holy shrine at Sannidhanam.
