KOCHI: The number of people who have sought treatment for food poisoning after consuming kuzhimanthi and alfaham from a hotel in Paravur has reached 68. Of these, 28 people sought treatment at Paravur Taluk Hospital, 20 at a private hospital, and three at Kalamassery Medical College. Others sought treatment at hospitals in Kozhikode and Thrissur. It is reported that the condition of a young woman admitted to the medical college is critical.
All of them had eaten kuzhimanthi and alfaham from Majlis Hotel in Paravur the other day. Two children are also undergoing treatment. Nine people undergoing treatment are students of MES College Kunnukara. They had consumed food from Majlis Hotel on Monday evening.
Following the incident, the officials of the municipality health department reached the spot and closed the hotel. In an inspection conducted at another hotel of the same people, the health department seized old tea powder mixed with artificial colour.
