PUNALUR: 15,300 litres of milk, which led to a dispute between the Food and Dairy Development Departments over adulteration, will be destroyed on Wednesday. The milk, which was kept in Thenmala Police Station under the custody of the Food Safety Department, was handed over to the Dairy Development Department on Tuesday. The proceedings will end with this as no case has been registered for adulteration.
The owner of Agrisoft Milks in Alappuzha had filed a petition alleging that the tanker was kept in custody unfairly. Following this, the High Court ordered that the milk be handed over to the Dairy Development Department and destroyed. As per the court order, the tanker should be handed over to the owner after destroying the milk with the help of the panchayat. The government lawyer who appeared for the Dairy Development Department had stated in the court that no case was registered.
The tanker carrying milk to Alappuzha was seized by the Dairy Development Department on January 11 in Aryankavu. The presence of hydrogen peroxide was confirmed in the milk after conducting tests using various reagents. The tanker was then handed over to the Food Safety Department for detailed inspection.
However, the presence of hydrogen peroxide was not detected in the test conducted at the laboratory of the Department of Food Safety in Thiruvananthapuram. This led to a dispute between the departments.
