KATTAPPANA: Vigilance caught a Tehsildar while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to issue an income certificate for a person moving abroad for work. The arrested has been identified as Jayesh Cheriyan, the Tehsildar of Idukki. The complainant's son, a Kanchiyar native, had requested an income certificate to be presented at the embassy. Tehsildar Jayesh Cheriyan, however, demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 in order to issue it. The person asked to lower the payment, but the Tehsildar refused.

The complainant then approached the Vigilance. On Thursday night, he was arrested outside his Kattappana home.

Following the directions from Vigilance Kottayam Eastern Range SP VG Vinodkumar, the arrest was made by Vigilance Idukki Unit under the leadership of DYSP Shaju Jose and comprising of CIs Tipson Thomas, Mahesh Pillai SIs Stanley Thomas, Joy AJ, Suresh KN, Suresh Kumar B, Pradeep PN, Biju Varghese, Basil P Isaac, SCPOs Sanal Chakrapani, Shinod PB, Bindu TD, Suresh KR, Dilip Kumar SS, Sandeep Duttan and Jhansi V.
