THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the account of expired food being caught from multiple hotels and multiple health issue cases being reported from the state, the food safety commissioner has come up with a new order. The food packets without the food safety slip or sticker have been banned. The slip or sticker should have the time and date of preparation and also the latest time by which that food should be consumed. The rule applies to the food which has been cooked and sent via hotels.

According to food safty regulations, packed food that falls under high-risk hot food has to be consumed within 2 hours.
60-degree temperature has to be maintained during the travel if the food delivery takes time.
Milk and milk products, meat and meat products, fish and fish products fall under this category.
Small hotels without bills should mention on the sticker the time within which the food has to be consumed while giving parcels.

Food materials like mayonnaise stored in refrigerators and consumed the next day can cause health issues due to bacteria build up. Consuming food that was stored in the refrigerator without re-heating can also cause problems.
It has been decided that strict action will be taken against violators. Health minister Veena George said that the decision was made because it was found that certain steps are necessary.
