CHIRAYINKEEZHU: On the incident where a nursing student faced spinal injury from a detached part of an X-Ray machine falling on her at the Chirayinkeezhu taluk hospital, health minister Veena George instructed the director of health department to take necessary action. Protest against the hospital that did not take the matter seriously has intensified.
Adithya (23) BSC nursing final year student who is the daughter of Anilkumar and Latha from Chirayinkeezhu met with this accident last Wednesday. The doctor instructed for taking an x-ray to check for food stuck in the throat. The machine part fell on her after the nurse instructed her to stay still after adjusting the machine.
The hospital employees did not take the matter seriously and said that it is fine even after Aditya complained about severe pain. After taking X-ray no food particles were found in throat as well. But when she contacted the ortho doctor due to difficulty walking because of severe pain, another x-ray revealed a fracture on the backbone. Doctor instructed her to take rest at home wearing a belt.
When the relatives conveyed the incident to the hospital superintendent he responded that such incidents do not happen often. He rejected the proposal for a written complaint, says the relatives. Adithya 's mother Latha is a part-time sweeper at Azhoor PHC.
Frivolous attitude from hospital
The hospital authority said that the machine part weighs only half a kilo and hence the chance that it caused a fracture is low. Aditya had an accident before and that could be the reason why the pain got intense said the authorities.
