NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be named after Param Vir Chakra awardees. Modi in his virtual address clarified that real-life heroes will be given due honor and recognition.


Modi also unveiled a model of a proposed memorial dedicated to Netaji’s memorial in Andaman on the occasion of Subhash Chandra Bose's 126th birth anniversary. Actor Anupam Kher described the central government's move as a 'befitting tribute to the warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice'.

The central government took such a step to honor the Param Vir Chakra awardees. An official said out of the 21 islands, 16 are in North, Middle Andaman district and five in South Andaman. The Prime Minister said that the islands named after the Param Vir Chakra awardees will be an inspiration for generations to come.
