THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The income of this Mandala, Makaravilakku season has touched 351 crores. This is the highest recorded income in history. More than half a crore devotees visited. Before covid, more than 269 crores were received. That means 82 crores more that the second-highest recorded income.
Only one-fourth of the coins that were received as an offering have been counted so far. It is estimated that more than 20 crores worth of coins have been received. After the calculation is complete the amount will go up further.
In the first year of covid, the income had dropped to 21 crores. Last year after the restrictions were reduced the income went up by 151 crores. Travancore Dewaswam President S Anandagopan said that 40% of income has to be used for expenses. The rest will be handed over to the board.
Queue complex will be modernized
Before next season the Queue complex will be modernized. Instead of giving land for the ropeway, land in Adimali will be given to the forest department instead. Once the forest land is available the ropeway construction will begin. 15 crore development project is being planned for Nilakkal.
Counting to start on 5th
Since the people counting coins have been working for 70 days it has been decided to give them a break. The rest of the coins will be counted from 5th February.
