KOCHI: Balaji Vijayan's and his wife Mohana is quite famous among travellers and those who love to travel. The couple become famous by their globe-trotting adventures using the small income from their tea shop. Vijayan passed away in 2021, which literally ended Mohana's world travel as well. However, her family has convinced her to go on foreign trips again, this time with daughter's family. They are preparing to travel to Japan to fulfill the dream left by Balaji Vijayan who visited many countries of the world but couldn't fulfill his wish of visiting Japan.
Late KR Vijayan's wife Mohana (70), daughter Usha, son-in-law Muralidhara Pai and grandchildren Amrita and Manjunath will go on a 15-day visit to Japan and South Korea from March 22. Vijayan's big dream was to visit the superpower nations America, Germany, China, Russia and Japan.
Vijayan, who traveled to 26 countries of the world with his wife in 16 years, died of a heart attack on November 19, 2021. The couple's last foreign trip together was a visit to Russia in October 2021 after the Covid pandemic. Unlike usual, his children, nephews and grandchildren were with them on that journey. Vijayan died while the preparations for Japan trip was underway.
Some leading travel and tourism companies have appointed them as brand ambassadors, of which many were left out.
The couple's first foreign trip was a visit to Egypt in 2007. Born in an ordinary family in Cherthala, Kochuparampil KR Vijayan travelled with his savings from the eatery and by taking gold loans.
After Vijayan's departure, Mohana, who was adamant that she will not travel any more, but was later forced to travel to Japan by her children, in-laws and travel groups. The travel expenses of Mohana and nephew are borne by a travel group in Kochi.
