NEW DELHI: PT Usha became the first nominated member to preside over a Rajya Sabha session. Usha got an opportunity to chair the House on Thursday at 3 o'clock in the absence of chairman Jagdeep Dhankar.

Usha shared the video clip of the assembly proceedings on her official Twitter handle and noted that it was a 'milestone and proud moment'. “Great power involves great responsibility" as said by Franklin D. Roosevelt was felt by me when I chaired the Rajya Sabha session. I hope to create milestones as I undertake this journey with the trust and faith vested in me by my people.”, she tweeted.

Usha was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in July 2022. She was elected as the president of the Indian Olympic Association last November. In December, Usha was included in the panel of vice-presidents to manage the proceedings of the House in the absence of the Speaker. Usha is the first nominated MP to become a member of the panel.
