GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat university called the RTI from Delhi CM Kejriwal seeking the degree certificate of PM Modi a puerile fantasy and defended its position in the Allahabad court saying no such details will be provided for political brownies.
The university through solicitor general Tushar Mehta informed the court that it doesn’t fall within the limits of RTI to seek information regarding the education of someone who is holding public office. Earlier the RTI commissioner ordered the details to be provided to the complainant, but the High court intervened and put a stay to the process in 2016. SG Tushar Mehta then informed the court that it is just a political hit game targeted at Modi and that such puerile intentions shall not be allowed a free run. He also mentioned that all such educational details of the prime minister are in the public domain and is free to access by anyone.
Meanwhile, the advocate who appeared for Kejriwal voiced dissent over shrouding the educational details of the prime minister of the country. He argued that when the Representation of the People Act mandates that politicians fighting elections must disclose their educational qualifications, exemptions about nondisclosure under section 8.
