THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A group of Malayali schoolgirls also contributed to the SSLV mission's accomplishment. 750 schoolgirls across the nation developed the AzaadiSAT satellite, which will play the NCC song from a height of 450 km in space. Girls from two schools in Kerala also participated in the mission.
Students from St. Cornelius Higher Secondary School, Kolayad in Kannur and Seethi Sahib Memorial High School, Azhikode in Thrissur were part of the mission. Each team consisting of ten members prepared one module of 50 grams. Chennai-based Space Kidz India then assembled these modules and made a cube-shaped satellite.
Schoolchildren from Kerala developed programming to determine the temperature control in space and the atmospheric structure. Space Kidz India, which was in charge of the satellite, handed over the software and the chip to the teams and briefed them on how to go about the task. The students themselves did everything under the guidance of the teachers
AzaadiSAT is playing the NCC song in space as a tribute to the National Cadet Corps marking its 75th year of establishment. The song is composed and sung by the famous music director Devi Sri Prasad.
Students of Seethi Sahib Memorial High School reached the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, the launch site, to witness the launch yesterday. The students of St. Cornelius Higher Secondary School had an opportunity to witness the first launch on August 7. However, the mission that day was a failure.
