MALAPPURAM: A relative of a 13-year-old girl has been arrested for her suicide in Melattur. The girl was sexually assaulted. Melattur police arrested Muhammad Rafeeq (21), a native of Nellaya Pottachira in Cherpulassery.

The girl committed suicide inside the house on January 12. The police had registered a case of unnatural death in the incident. In the post-mortem it was stated that the girl was subjected to sexual exploitation, so the accused was arrested under Pocso charges. Muhammad Rafeeq had come to the girl’s house several times and raped her. The investigation revealed that the girl committed suicide due to this.

As per Perinthalmanna DYSP's direction, a team led by Melattur SHO KR Ranjith, SI CP Muralidharan, Senior CPOs K Prashanth, NT Krishnakumar, M Manojkumar and CPO K Dinesh was arrested. He was produced in court and remanded.
