PALAKKAD: Six people were arrested for brutally beating up a camel in Palakkad's Mathur. The action has been taken against Coimbatore native Manikandan, who is the owner of the camel, and five others. They were later released on station bail.
Shyam Shinde, a native of Telangana, Kishore Jogi, a native of Madhya Pradesh, Abdul Karim, Shamir and Syed Mohammad, natives of Mathur, were arrested along with Manikandan. The camel was brought to Theruvath mosque for offering. The animal was brutally beaten while it was being loaded into a vehicle after the celebration. From the video that circulated on the internet, a man can be seen beating the animal on the head with a stick.
The animal welfare department had lodged a complaint with the district police chief. Based on this, the Kottai police arrested the owner of the camel.
