THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The documents have come out that Minister R Bindu had proposed to form a five-member search committee for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Malayalam University according to the provisions of the Bill, which has been withheld by the Governor without his signature, The minister ordered her proposal to be implemented, despite officials' written notice that the bill had not been approved by the governor.

The Governor had asked the Principal Secretary of higher education to suggest government representatives for the search committee. Rejecting this, the government was about to form a five-member search committee on its own. A letter was also sent to the Governor in return to appoint the Chancellor's representative to the non-legal search committee. Rejecting this, the governor has started the process of forming a search committee on his own for Malayalam, CUSAT, and MG universities.

The minister wrote in the file that a five-member search committee would be formed, and suggested that the file be submitted again after getting such representatives. However, officials recorded in the file that they had received a letter from the Raj Bhavan to appoint a government representative. Officials also pointed out in the file that the governor did not approve the bill providing for a search committee as suggested by the minister. The minister has repeatedly suggested in the file to form a five-member search committee. Accordingly, the government issued a letter to the Principal Secretary to the Governor on January 18, requesting the Chancellor's representative. Raj Bhavan has not responded to this.

Meanwhile, UGC has been represented on the search committees of three universities. Karnataka Central University VC Prof. Battu Satyanarayana (Malayalam), Mizoram University Ex-Vice Chancellor Prof. KRA Ssambasiva Rao (MG), and English and Foreign Languages ​​University Hyderabad VC Prof.E Suresh Kumar were recommended by the UGC as per the demand of the Governor.
