THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IG Guguloth Laxman, who was under suspension over his unholy relationship with antiquities fraudster Monson Mavunkal, was recently reinstated. According to a recent source, efforts are being undertaken to promote him to the rank of Additional DGP.

IG Lakshman was under suspension from November 2021 after the crime branch informed the chief minister with digital evidence that he had protected Monson using his powers. He was reinstated on the recommendation of the suspension review committee.

Lakshman, who was under suspension, was not considered when the 1997 batch IPS officers were promoted to Additional DGPs. The move is to give Lakshman an important post like Jail Superintendent immediately after he is promoted to Additional DGP.

Although the crime branch found that IG Lakshman had a close relationship with Monson for three years and had used security personnel for Monson's antiquities business, he was not named an accused in the case. No departmental inquiry was conducted against him.
