KOZHIKODE: The police arrested the woman, accused in a murder case, who escaped from the Kuthiravattom mental health center. Poonam Devi, a native of Bihar, was nabbed from Vengara bus stand in Malappuram around 8.45 am Sunday morning. The locals identified her after she alighted at Vengara from Kozhikode, and soon informed the police.

Poonam escaped from the mental health center Sunday early morning. She got out after removing the ventilator grill of the toilet with a stone. Police said she hung from the first floor and then scaled by holding the cables on the wall. It is believed that she got the help of fellow prisoners to escape. Police said that she fled from the prison to see her baby.


The police arrested Poonam, a resident of Bihar's Vaishali, in the case of murdering of her husband Sanjith Paswan in Vengara. Poonam was admitted to the hospital yesterday after she showed severe mental uneasiness. She was admitted in Forensic Ward 5. She escaped from here. The police tightened surveillance after her escape.
