BENGALURU: The Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi, a right-wing Hindu organization, has demanded to celebrate ‘Parents’ Worship Day’ instead of Valentine's Day. A new demand has been raised in a letter to the City Police Commissioner citing that no one should be allowed to celebrate Valentine's Day in Bengaluru city under any circumstances. The decision to celebrate Valentine's Day as Cow Hug Day was highly controversial and the Centre withdrew it. The Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi came up with a new demand immediately after this.
“On Valentine’s Day many girls fall in love trap. Celebrating Valentine's Day on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack is not right. Therefore, February 14 should be celebrated as a day to respect parents.”, said Janajagruthi Samithi leader. Several incidents of attacks were reported in Bengaluru earlier on people celebrating Valentine's Day.
Meanwhile, controversial godman Asaram Bapu has also demanded that Valentine's Day be observed as a day to worship parents. Asaram is a person who has been convicted in a rape case. Asaram released a video requesting that Feb 14 be observed as a day to respect parents.
Last month, the Animal Welfare Secretary had issued order that Valentine's Day be observed as a cow hugging day. As the issue became controversial, the Centre withdrew the order without giving any reason.
