THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A reading corner is being arranged for children at Valiyasala Govt LP School, which was turned into a heaven by Preetha teacher. The reading corner will be in the name of PN Panicker, the father of library movement. More than 200 books will be arranged on beautiful shelves.

PN Panicker Foundation and Kasturba Grameena Grandhashala will jointly deliver the books. Books on Malayalam literature and children's literature will be provided. The good news was conveyed to the teacher by Mahesh Manikyam, member of the District Library Council, Kasturba Grameena Grandhasala Secretary and PN Panicker Foundation Secretary.

Mahesh Manikyam called the teacher after reading her life story in Kerala Kaumudi yesterday. 56-year-old Preetha teacher has worked tirelessly and changed the condition of Valiyasala Govt LP School. She made it a good school which lacked basic facilities. Many other people are also calling the teacher.

Apart from reading corner, 'Mothers’ Club' will also be set up. The aim is to inculcate the habit of reading in children through mothers who come to pick up their children at school. Book discussions will be held once a week.

Preetha came to this school as headmistress in 2018. There were 7 students then and today there are 73 children due to the efforts of the teacher.

“Reading helps children to grow. I am happy that the school has received such help before I retire in April.”, said Preetha teacher.
